Ocean Isle Beach has an oyster weekend on the calendar, and this is a good time to decide whether your priority is watching somebody shuck fast or taking your time over stew.
The 45th NC Oyster Festival is scheduled for October 17–18, 2026, at Town Center Park. The organizer's current festival site lists food, arts and crafts, live music and oyster contests. The Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce is the event contact.
Here's a small plan for a coastal day that should involve more wandering and less arguing with the contents of your cooler.
Pick your oyster appointment
According to the 2026 contest schedule, professional and amateur shucking contests start Saturday at noon. Entry is free, but competitors must register in person at the contest tent, even if they complete an application ahead of time.
Sunday's oyster stew cook-off is listed for 1 p.m., with $5 tickets. The contest tent is on the grass inside the fenced part of Town Center Park. That ticket is for the cook-off; don't mistake it for a verified festival admission price.
If watching skilled hands work is your thing, build Saturday around the shucking. If your best oyster argument starts with a spoon, Sunday has an obvious attraction. You don't have to turn eating into an endurance event to enjoy an oyster festival.
Check the organizer's pages again before leaving. These are the posted plans as of October 16, not a promise that every time or arrangement will stay fixed.
Choose the parking lot before the bridge
The festival's parking instructions list free parking at Lowes Foods, 6278 Beach Drive, and Odell Williamson Municipal Airport, 6080 Beach Drive, with free shuttles during festival hours. Paid parking is also listed at Ocean Isle Pier.
Organizers flag 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as a busy period for traffic onto the island and warn that shuttle waits can grow. They place accessible transportation at the Lowes Foods lot and warn against parking in undesignated lots, where vehicles may be towed.
Our practical advice: save the official lot information before the trip, allow a cushion around any contest you care about, and agree on a meeting point if your group splits up. A schedule works better when it includes the ride from the car.
Your beach-day packing list needs an edit
The organizer's current guidelines prohibit coolers, pets, alcohol, smoking and vapes, plus outside food, drinks, water, cups and containers. Don't assume a reusable water bottle gets a pass; check directly with organizers about any necessary accommodation before traveling. The Chamber's published contact is (910) 754-6644.
That makes this a different outing from a quiet afternoon at the beach. Read the entry rules before packing, and budget for what you plan to buy inside. We are reporting the posted rules, not recommending that anyone skip water or necessary supplies.
There is a working coast behind the food
The timing has a real seasonal backdrop. North Carolina's 2026–27 oyster proclamation opened public-bottom hand harvest at sunrise October 15, subject to its restrictions. The scheduled closing date is March 31, 2027, unless closed sooner.
That opening does not tell us where festival vendors sourced their oysters, and it doesn't make every stretch of water available to harvest. This is a guide to attending the festival, not permission to collect your own on the way home.
October on this coast gives you more than one kind of day: a food-and-music crowd, an old town story, or a quieter beach trip. If you're sticking closer to Topsail, our North Topsail history piece offers another place to start.
For Ocean Isle this weekend, pick your contest, pick your lot, and leave some room for the stew.
